Passage:Mark 1:7-11

Speaker: The Rev. Irv Cutter

Category: Baptism

Keywords: baptism, discipleship

In Mark's Gospel, we meet Jesus at the occasion of his baptism, when he hears that the Father is well-pleased with him. This is a forward-looking moment: the Father's pleasure leads Jesus forward. We can remember those occasions when the Father is well-pleased with us, not so much with what we have done, but with what we commit to do. That's one aspect of baptism: in our baptism we are reminded of the Father's delight in our embrace of the Christian life, a life of following Jesus and pointing others towards God's love and grace.
